I don't think you should be so dismissive Marc. We can't all be leaders, and many of us don't want to be; but we can still contribute behind the scenes. The male sex is under assault on many fronts, so the battle needs to be fought on many fronts, and different tactics may be appropriate in different circumstances. What you consider a pointless stunt can nevertheless have a big impact. If you had been a citizen of Boston in 1773 and a bunch of guys had said to you "Hey Marc, we are going to dress as Indians, march down to the docks and tip all the tea from those British ships into the sea - are you with us?" Would you have told them they were wasting their time on a stupid stunt? If so, you would have just missed your place in history.

I also think there is nothing wrong in using a pseudonym. I use my real name when it is necessary, such as corresponding directly with organisations from whom I expect a reply, and a pseudonym when I am commenting on blogs - for a good reason. Blogs are public forums and could be read by anyone on the planet, including nutters of all shapes and sizes. If any of them decide they don't like me and would like to know who I am, where I live and what family I have, then I am certainly not going to help them by giving them a real name to start with. I guess that is the main reason why so many others remain anonymous or use an avatar. It's standard practice, and doesn't necessarily mean nobody has the courage of their convictions. Plenty of bloggers are just letting off steam or play-acting, but there are also some serious people behind the masks, doing seriously important work. It is the message that counts, not the identity of the guy delivering it. If what is say is either right or wrong, it remains right or wrong regardless of whether I call myself Old Mother Riley or Donald Duck.

I am also not your enemy! I think you are doing great work and deserve more attention than you seem to be getting here.

Sorry, Paul, but there is no value in being anonymous. If you don't have the courage of your convictions, you have neither, and nobody will respect or follow you.

Stunts are a waste. Awareness without results is meaningless.

No comments yet? On such an important subject? Marc, you may be dead right about the lethargy of defeated men.

However I will take issue with you on a couple of points. I do believe there is considerable value in "complaining under aliases on blogs" - otherwise I would not be doing it myself!

Blogs can be a vital way of keeping in touch with news and events, encountering other people of a like mind and exchanging ideas. It can be a lifeline for men who feel alone and alienated in a male-hating environment. Of course, you are right in that just moaning does not get you very far; but helping to educate others, hearing alternative views and getting information about events are positive results that can come from contributing to blogs. Where else do you think I heard about you? I live in the UK, and I would never have heard of you if I had relied on the UK mass media to tell me about your views. We have feminist censorship over here, too. But they can't censor the internet and men's rights blogs, which is how I found you.

Also the "counterproductive stunts" are not counterproductive if they grab headlines and highlight injustices.

Before there can be any effective action, there has to be awareness of the cause, and both the blogs and the stunts raise and increase awareness. They represent a first step from which others can follow. But you are right in that the other practical, active steps then have to be taken.
